I have the privilege of living in a place where I can see all kinds of cool stuff happening from my balcony.
A couple of weeks there was the weekend festival, with Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Darude, and a lot of other famous artists. I was lying in the hammock on the balcony enjoying the light shows and the music at no charge.
Another thing that happens all the time if the weather’s right, is parachute jumps. Either solo or tandem, the guys always land in the grass right next to the building. Paragliding they do off the same field, and there are two guys that always come with this kind of cart with a parachute attached to it and take off and land from the same field.
In winter they’re board surfing either in the snow on the field or on the ice of the sea a bit further.

Hot air balloons don’t take off from exactly the field out front, but from a bit further east. I can see them when they are fully filled with air and about to take off.
And of course then they come over here.
I caught this one a bit too late. I just came home from a shooting and it had passed already. But I manage to capture it still quite nicely (albeit with a 300mm + 2x + 1.4x extender).

We were out on Suomenlinna last weekend with friends. Just for touristing, they were over from Holland, and hadn’t been there before.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we spent a good amount of time sitting on a terrace, on the rocks near the sea and roaming the island.
Not far from where we sat on the rocks, just over on the other side of the hill we happened to see a kite appear every now and again. When we were done with our picnic we went for the round around the island and moved toward the kite.
I’ve done some stuff in my time, but this has been on my list of wanting-to-do for a long time. Not sure how difficult it is, or if you can even do it “just like that”, but well… One should never stop dreaming, right?
Kudos to this guy. The wind was very strong and he made it look so easy.

BMX is something I’ve done myself for 20 years. I love it. And even if I haven’t ridden a BMX in like… 6 or 7 years, I still love it. So when round 11 and 12 of the European Championships 2011 came to Haaksbergen, a place about 20 minutes from my birth-town, I decided I wanted to be there.
And I was there. And boy, did that itch come back full force! I wanted to bike so badly!
Great experience, great to see those guys (and gals) fly over the track. Great to see how things have staid the same, yet have changed so much.

Too bad Finland doesn’t have a BMX-racing scene. I definitely would be part of it if it would have (something anywhere close)…

The first image, as were most of the other images I shot during this day, was part of a burst of images I shot. I put one of them together in an image sequence, so you can see part of the awesomeness of this exhilarating (and since the last Olympics in Beijing) an official Olympic sport!
