I’ve never really had problems moving out of Holland. Of course I do miss my family and friends, but I’m more the “home is where the heart is” type of guy. The country The Netherlands as such I don’t really miss (especially now with the whole spectacle in Dutch politics it’s not bad to be in another country, but that aside…). People do ask me on occasion if I don’t miss things from the Netherlands. “We” do have a couple of things in Holland that you don’t easily find elsewhere. Hagelslag is one (I won’t even begin to explain what it is, but suffice to say, for the sake of simplicity, that most of you would categorize it as chocolate cake sprinkles/decoration). Brinta (porridge) is another one, stroopwafels (syrup waffles) a third (don’t let ANYone fool you with fake ones! Dutch ones are the one and only originals!).
So whenever I travel to Holland I bring back a suitcase full of food stuff. Or, like a couple of weeks ago, when a friend went to Holland and brought back a 5-pack multi-package of Brinta 😀
Or… Like last weekend, when you get friends over for a visit and they surprise you with a backpack full of all kinds of stuff. Excellent! 🙂
There’s no space left in any of the cupboards, drawers or elsewhere, so I guess I just have to eat everything quickly 😀

Hmm, wasn’t I coming over for dinner? How about I bring that bag for desert? 😉
